Moving On….

I think that anyone who’s visited The Sixth String Blog within the last few months have noticed that it has died; gone with the wind. I am here to sadly confirm these myths. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I have moved to a place not to far from here: Twitter. I wanted to widen my horizon, and not just post about new music, but also other things I love like videos, apps, news, movies, you name it. I might come back here someday and start posting again, but I highly doubt it. Until then, goodbye.

Album Review: Rescue - Silverstein (2011)

                                                WARNING

(I am a new listener of Silverstein and also am not a Screamo core fan I must admit my review will not be the same as a true hardcore fan of this band.)

                                                 REVIEW

The first song off of Silverstein’s new album, Rescue, is Medication. This track is not one of my favorite due to the fact that the chorus is hard to find, as there is no pre-chorus or noticeable backing vocals, but if you are a fan of screaming and fast slick guitar riff this will be a favorite to you. The second track off the record is Sacrifice, definitely a little better than the first song, only because it has a pretty catchy vocals, and again if you are a fan of fast guitar riffs this song will be a keeper. The third song, Forget Your Heart, is one of my favorite songs because it is one of the slower songs, as it doesn’t have screams every ten-seconds, the lyrics are a punch in the face level of awesomeness and the pre-chorus is amazing. Continuing to the fourth song, Intervention, there is a small quite intro but then you will be greeted with loud screams and super fast guitar playing and then, within a 30-seconds, a really catchy chorus. The next track, Good Luck With Your Lives, is again a slower song and is one of my favorites, but there isn’t much screaming in the song although the lyrics and chorus make up for the lack of screaming. With possibly the best intro guitar riff, Texas Mickey, is one of the coolest songs on the record, but sadly there isn’t much else to say in the song, it sounds really similar to the rest of the album. The seventh song, The Artist, on the record is without-a-doubt the hardest song on the records, the track constantly throws screams into the melody and will be a fan favorite for all the screamers out there. The bands first single and eighth track on the album, Burning Hearts, sounds like a very Silverstein-ish song and is alright, after a couple listens you will really enjoy this song and will be begging that they made all of the record similar to this. Following the first single, Darling Harbor, is my favorite song on the album simply because of the lyrics “But there’s something in the air, turning stutters into stares, I look into your blue eyes and say; Darling don’t throw it all away.” Darling Harbor is the slowest, but the by far the most catchy song in the entire album. The next song Live To Kill, is an alright song but the intro riff sounds really familiar to people who have listened to Rise Against’s newest album, Endgame, over and over again. The 11th song, Replace You, is a pretty cool song with really nice lyrics and catchy guitar riffs and a dance-y chorus, other than that it does sound kind of repetitive throughout the rest of the song. The last song, In Memory Of…, makes the album end on a high note and the perfect tempo; I believe they chose this song to be the outro song because of the storyline that goes with it. In conclusion I say this is one of Silverstein’s better-sounding records they’ve made. My goal of this review wasn’t to judge on how many screams a band could squeeze into one record, but how diverse they could become versus they’re previous album. I rated the songs that I thought were different from what they usually created higher because it shows that the band is expanding their horizons and trying out different styles. I would say that if you are new to the band this would be a pretty good album to start listening to.
